targetVision

Ever since Helen Keller inspired us to champion the cause in 1925, we’ve served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. Nearly a century later, this long-standing mission continues unhindered.

Facts

  • 252 million people are blind or have moderate to severe distance vision impairment.
  • 1.1 billion have near-vision impairment simply because they don’t have a pair of glasses.
  • More than 75% of all blindness is avoidable.
  • 89% of people with visual impairment live in developing countries.

We have a plan

We have a long history of serving the blind and visually impaired, and remain committed to continuing this mission into our next century of service. Therefore, last year we provided 756 vision screenings in 2 different cities, accounting for over 800 pairs of glasses to those in need.
We are in the process of purchasing a van to provide a Mobile Clinic to meet the clients where they need us. We are in the process of purchasing a “Spot Cam Machine” to be used by school nurses through-out the Ventura School District for student vision screenings.

hungerHunger

We serve to improve human flourishing. We see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities, and believe true community improvement depends on the thriving of its members.

  • 155 million children under the age of 5 are stunted due to chronic malnutrition.
  • 1/3 of annual food production is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain.
  • 33% of women of reproductive age suffer from anemia.

We have a plan

We see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities. We believe true community improvement depends on the thriving of its members by ensuring all community members have access to nutritious foods. We have supported Food Share by providing over 150,000 families each month that are food insecure boxes of food containing rice, beans, vegetables, fruit, milk, and other pantry items per week in 5 different cities throughout Ventura County.

The earth sustains human life. We’ve seen how our stewardship of natural resources can improve quality of life and increase engagement in our local communities. Our environment is more than a background – it’s our home. And we’re committed to caring for it.

  • There are more than 3 trillion trees in the world.
  • 30% of the world’s land area is covered by forest.
  • More than 15 billion trees are cut down every year.
  • There is a estimated 46% decrease in the tree count since the start of human civilization.

We have a plan

We’ve see how the stewardship of natural resources can improve quality of life and increase engagement in our local communities. Sustainably protect and restore our environment to improve the well-being of all communities. We have done local beach clean-up days, planted 35 trees with the community, provided a donation to re-establish the botanical gardens above City Hall, and we help open Harmon Canyon for community hikes and educational tours, including the restoration of protected animal and plants.

childhoodChildhood Cancer

Lions and Leos provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer through impactful service activities.

We have held “Magic Yarn” workshops creating “Super Hero” wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
